Katyana Melic has worked in numerous public policy, research and advisory roles in the United States, China, the Middle East, Africa, Indonesia, and throughout Southeast Asia. In 2019, Katyana published a book,
Past, Present, Future: Conserving the Nation’s Built Heritage. She is also the author of a number of research papers prepared during her work with the Singapore Government. In her various roles as a civil servant, Katyana led several research initiatives, conducting ethnographic research to inform government spatial planning and other urban development policies.
She has organized and delivered seminars on a wide range of subjects, including, migration and the city, urban heritage conservation, social justice and the role of religion in development. Katyana also has extensive experience designing and implementing capacity building training programs for international city leaders, civil servants and government officials, having coordinated programs with international organisations tailored to the sustainability needs of emerging global cities. She also works closely with training programs for emerging scholars on issues of global prosperity. In 2017 she was appointed to the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative.
Katyana holds a BA in Anthropology, Magna Cum Laude, from Macalester College, where she was a Kofi Annan Scholar and an MSc in Migration Studies from Oxford University.
