Gyanendra Badgaiyan

Dr. Badgaiyan is a Senior Fellow at the IDFC Institute. He was, until recently, the Director General of the National Centre for Good Governance, under the Government of India. He was a member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from 1991 to 2013. As a member of the Service, he served as District Collector, Finance Secretary, Professor (Economics) at IAS Academy, Mussoorie and Secretary to the Chief Minister of Delhi.
After taking voluntary retirement from the IAS, he worked in the office of the Executive Director, World Bank, Washington, DC, as Chief Economist at UNDP and as Research Fellow, UN University, WIDER, Helsinki.

He has worked on pioneering governance reforms such as the Delhi Right to Information Act and community involvement in governance through the Bhagidari Program (in Delhi). For his contribution to public service, Gyanendra was chosen as one of 12 Indians for the Excellence in Leadership (Gurukul Scholarship) Award by the British Council and London School of Economics.
He earned a Master’s degree in Economics from Delhi School of Economics (gold medallist), MPhil Economics degree (honourable mention for Stevenson Prize) from Cambridge University, UK, and MPP (best graduating student) & PhD degrees from Princeton University, USA.
