After completing his studies in Political Science and History, he chose the prefectural corps when he left the National School of Administration (ENA) in 1992. After a first position as Chief of Staff in La Rochelle, he became sub-prefect of Montmorillon (Vienne) in 1993, where he was in charge of coordinating the major construction site of the Civaux nuclear power plant and the radioactive waste research laboratory project.

In 1995, he became Chief of Staff of the Minister of SMEs, Trade and Handicrafts (JP Raffarin), before joining the President of the National Assembly (Ph. Seguin) as technical adviser in charge of internal and regional affairs.

After a few months at the planning commission with Henri Guaino, he was appointed Secretary General of the prefecture of Haute-Corse shortly after the assassination of the prefect Erignac (April 1998). In 2001, he was appointed Deputy Director of Driver Training (Road Safety Directorate).

In June 2002, he became Deputy Director and then Chief of Staff of the Minister of the Family (Ch Jacob) and retained these functions successively at the Ministry of SMEs and then at the Ministry of the Civil Service.

In 2006, he joined the economic and financial ministries as HR Director of the central administration, also in charge of ministerial social action, real estate, logistics and IT (DPAEP).

In November 2009, he became Director General of Administration and the Civil Service (DGAFP).

Finally, in October 2013, he was appointed Inspector General of Finance and President of the Agency for Adult Vocational Training (AFPA - interim since December 2017). JF Verdier was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the IRA of Metz (2013-2019) and a member of the Board of the National Institute for High Studies in Defence).

JF Verdier is a Lecturer for Masters' programmes in Public Management. He also carries out numerous international cooperation missions to countries like Morocco, Tunisia, Vietnam, China, Ethiopia, Korea, and Malta.

An Officer of the Legion of Honor, he is married and a father of three daughters.
